Prayer (As-Salat) is the second pillar of Islam, following the declaration of faith (shahada). It is performed five times a day — Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha — at precise times determined by the sun's position rather than a fixed clock. This natural rhythm connects the believer to dawn, midday, the afternoon, sunset and nightfall. Observing these times is a fundamental religious obligation: a prayer performed outside its window loses its legal validity, barring a recognized excuse. Beyond ritual, prayer structures a Muslim's day, cultivating discipline, presence, and the constant remembrance of God (dhikr), wherever they are in the world.
